Closing the gap between timescales in the laboratory and in the mantle

1st July 2020 - Pierre Hirel and NuMoGO are given the go-ahead by I-SITE ULNE

Answering the Support for young researchers 2020 call, the NuMoGO project (Numerical Modelling of Grain boundaries in Olivine) proposed by Pierre Hirel was green-lighted by the I-SITE Université Lille Nord Europe. The goal of this project is to study the atomic structure of grain boundaries in forsterite Mg2SiO4, the magnesium-rich end-member of the olivine family. In particular, the effects of non-stoichiometry on the stability and the properties of grain boundaries will be investigated.

This I-Site grant will allow us to finance a post-doctoral researcher to work with us on this topic (more information will follow in the coming weeks). The project is co-financed (at the same level) by the TimeMan project to extend the position to 3 years.
