The Marcel De Merre Prize is a biennial prize in nanotechnology and nanoscience that allows the Catholic University of Louvain to attract brilliant young postdoctoral researchers and thus increase the international visibility of the institution in this critical field for the future. The prize is awarded through an international competition.
The 2020 IN grant will be awarded to Paul Baral for his research on the understanding of the deformation mechanisms, at the microscopic scale, of the Earth's mantle (intermediate layer between the Earth's core and the crust). The main objective of this study is to improve the understanding of the elementary physical phenomena responsible for the behavior of the Earth's mantle.
