Mohamed Akou and Caroline Traisnel

We are pleased to welcome two new postdoctoral researchers to the team.

Caroline Traisnel, already based at the laboratory, will work with Philippe Carrez on point defects in ultra-high-pressure olivine polymorphs stable up to 1 TPa. Combining first-principles calculations and advanced atomistic simulations, she will investigate the elementary mechanisms controlling mass transport and deformation in silicates under super-Earth mantle conditions.

Mohamed Akou, who obtained his PhD at Institut Pprime in Poitiers, will work with Patrick Cordier on deformation in olivine. Using ACOM-TEM, he will investigate the nanoscale structure and formation mechanisms of kink bands, providing new constraints on deformation processes in the lithospheric mantle.
